HAIR CARE AND HOMOEOPATHY

Introduction

Hair is a simple structure found in the dermis layer of skin and is made of protein Keratin. Though it is a simple structure yet it plays a very important role in our social functioning.

Human body grows hair on every part apart from our lips, palms and soles. Homeopathic medicine for hair care.

What are some of the commonest hair problems?

  1. Hair fall – hair fall has become one of the commonest problem in today's world, for both men and women. Shedding of 50 to 100 hair per day is considered normal but more than that might be an issue of concern. Men are moving towards male pattern baldness, whereas females are suffering from general hair thinning over the entire scalp. Hair fall can occur due to a lot of reasons. I am stating a few reasons here:

  • Undernutrition

  • Anaemia

  • Stress

  • Hormonal imbalance

  • Underlying diseases like Thyroid diseases, PCOD etc.

  • Some acute infections like seasonal flu, typhoid etc.

  • Side effects of some medicines like oral contraceptive pills, etc.

  1. Dandruff – dandruff is again one of the very widespread condition which has affected all of us at some point of time or the other irrespective of age and ethnicity. Exact cause of dandruff is not known but it is believed that it occurs due to dry scalp, increased sebum production and some fungal infection.

  1. Grey hair – turning of hair grey is a normal procedure which occurs as we age. Approximately half of the population suffers from grey hair by the time they reach 45 years of age. But nowadays, premature greying of hair is creating a lot of problems. Exact cause of premature greying of hair is not known but some common causes are being mentioned below.

  • Genetic tendencies

  • Stress

  • Malnutrition

  • Hormonal imbalance

  • Some underlying disease

  • Chemotherapy

  • Overuse of chemical hair treatments, etc.

  1. Dry hair – dry hair is a very common hair problem. Usually lack of protein in diet, and lack of required amount of moisture in hair leads to dryness of hair. This happens due to increased exposure of hair to sun, wind, heat treatments, excess of hair wash, etc.

  1. Frizzy hair – frizzy hair occurs mostly due to dehydration which means decreased moisture levels in your hair. It can happen anytime and anywhere. Excess of heat and chemical treatment can also make your hair frizzy.

  1. Split ends – split ends occur due to dryness in hair, which can be both internal and external. It can also be related directly to lack of important vitamins and minerals in diet.

  1. Dull hair –– another very common hair problem is dull, lifeless hair. Hair without shine, gloss, volume and lusture makes you look older than you actually are. Dull hair is again the result of dryness in your hair which occurs when the cuticles don't absorb and retain the required amount of moisture. Dull hair occurs due to heat and chemical treatment as well as some environmental stresses.

  1. Heat damaged hair – heat causes a lot of hair damage. Not only the heat of our curling, crimping and straightening rods but also due to UV radiations coming from the sun, leads to damaged hair, making them look dry and frizzy.

  1. Chemical treatment damaged hair – all sorts of hair colors, bleaching agents, consist of some significant amount of chemicals, thus getting hair dyed leads to hair damage due to the chemicals present in the hair dyes. Hair dyes cause cuticles to become soft and thus this dye goes into the shaft of hair and reacts with the natural hair pigment Melanin, making hair strands dry and weak.

  1. Oily/ greasy hair – our scalp produces oil or sebum, which is responsible for keeping hair moisturised, nourished and healthy. Some people produce sebum naturally more than the others thus making their hair look oily. Others might be eating a lot of refined flours, fats and sugars which aids in increased production of sebum, hence oily looking hair. Pollution, dust or dirt in our environment settles down in our hair making them look oilier.

Management and Treatment of Hair problems

  1. Diet modification is very very important. Inclusion of food items rich in Iron, Vitamins and Minerals should be the main focus of diet planning. Good protein content in diet is equally important. Try to have a well-balanced diet so that proper nutrition can be achieved, thus imparting you good health.

  1.  Remain hydrated always. Drink a minimum 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.

  1. Try to keep stress under control, as much as possible, because stress today has been a major cause of hair problems these days.

  1. Avoid smoking both actively and passively, because toxins released from smoking, settle down in your scalp, thus interfering with the health of your hair.

  1. Use a good quality mild shampoo for washing your hair; you can wash your hair once in every three days, in case you tend to have oily hair, then you can wash your hair once in every two days or even daily if required.

  1. Brush your hair gently and do not comb wet hair as wet hair tends to break easily.

  1. Get your hair trimmed, every 8 to 12 weeks, to avoid split ends.

  1. Cover your head before going out in the sun, and use a heat protective spray on your hair before heat styling them.

  1. Homoeopathic treatment.
